Swifties decorate Rio's iconic Christ statue to welcome singer to Brazil
Welcome to Brazil, Taylor Swift, it’s been waiting for you.
This week, when the pop star started her run of shows in Rio de Janeiro, the world's most famous statue of Christ welcomed her and her devoted fans with open arms and a projected picture of a Swift-inspired T-shirt.
On Thursday night, a huge message welcomed the singer to the country for the latest part of her Eras Tour was lit up on the 125-foot Christ the Redeemer.
The big show of welcome was made possible by the kindness of her fans and the management of the famous statue, the Christ the Redeemer Archdiocesan Sanctuary.
A lot of Swift fans asked Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes on social media to project a picture of the "Junior Jewels" shirt from Swift's "You Belong with Me" music video onto the figure. It got a lot of attention.
Paes, who once called the singer the "Madonna of our times," said he would talk to the sanctuary's priest, the Rev. Omar Raposo, about it.
